Why buyers trust SkillSellUp

You should see how a marketplace treats you before you spend a dollar. This is how we handle price, payment, sellers, reviews and your details, in plain words. Everything here is something the site does today.

One price, shown before you pay

The price you see is the price you pay.

  • Your total is the seller's package price plus any optional add-ons you tick, in US dollars. You see it on the gig page, again at checkout before you place the order, and on your order afterwards.
  • SkillSellUp adds no service fee at checkout.
  • A coupon code can lower your total. Add-ons only count if you choose them.
  • We work the price out on our servers from the seller's package and save it on your order when you place it, so the amount on your order page is the amount you agreed.
  • If a tax ever has to be added, our Terms say it is shown before you pay.

Your payment is held until you approve the work

You pay SkillSellUp, never the seller, and we hold the money while the work is done.

  • Accept the delivery and the payment is released. Until you do, it stays with us.
  • Not right yet? Ask for a revision from the order page. Every package says how many revisions it includes, and an administrator can grant more.
  • If revisions do not fix it, open a dispute. An administrator decides on a full refund, a partial refund or no refund, under the written Refund Policy.
  • If you do not respond to a delivery, it is accepted automatically after 3 days. Your order page shows the date and the days you have left. An order that is on hold or in dispute is not accepted automatically.

Refunds are guaranteed by SkillSellUp, not left for the seller to agree to. They follow the written Refund Policy, including the cases where there is no refund:

  • You cancel before work startsFull refund.
  • You cancel after work has startedPartial refund, decided by an administrator.
  • The work is delivered and you are not satisfiedRevisions first, then a dispute if that does not fix it.
  • The work is correct but you changed your mindNo refund.
  • The order is completedNo refund, except in exceptional cases decided by SkillSellUp.

Sellers are checked before they go public

Nobody lists a service just by signing up.

  • To sell on SkillSellUp, a person applies. An administrator reads the application and decides.
  • Before a seller's public profile goes live, an administrator checks it. The photo must be the seller's own face or a real logo, the name must not be another company's or a famous person's, the bio must not claim a qualification, experience, award or client the seller does not have, and the country must be right.
  • Every gig is read by an administrator before it goes live. A seller cannot publish their own gig, and a gig must meet minimum content standards before it can even be sent for review.
  • Changes to a live gig or profile are reviewed too. What you see stays as it was until the change is approved.
  • Every gig names its seller, with a public profile and reviews you can read before you order.

Reviews you can believe

Where a review comes from, and who can change it, should never be a mystery.

  • Reviews come from two places: buyers whose order was completed on SkillSellUp, and past clients a seller invited to leave one.
  • A review from an invited client is read and approved by an administrator before it appears.
  • A review shows the writer's first name and the first letter of their last name.
  • A buyer cannot edit a review after posting it. A seller cannot edit or delete the reviews written about them, and can only reply once, publicly, beneath a review.
  • An administrator can hide a review that breaks the rules. A written reason is kept on record every time.

Talk to the seller before you order

Ask first. The chat is built into SkillSellUp, in the same place you order.

  • Every gig has a chat button that opens a private conversation with the seller once you have an account. Ask questions, share files and, if your project does not fit a package, the seller can send you a custom offer with a price and a delivery time. An offer becomes an order only if you accept it and pay, and it expires after 7 days if you do not.
  • Phone numbers, email addresses and links typed into the chat are hidden automatically, for both sides, so the conversation and your payment protection stay on SkillSellUp.
  • Sellers see your username, not your real name. Your email address and phone number are never shown to sellers or on any public page.
  • The filter is automatic, so it is not perfect. Every conversation has a Report button. Administrators can read a conversation to settle a report, and each time they do, it is logged.
  • If anyone asks you to pay outside SkillSellUp, say no and report it. Your payment protection only covers payments made here.

No pay-to-reply, no pay-to-promote

A seller cannot buy their way in front of you, or into your inbox.

  • It costs a seller nothing to apply, to join or to answer a buyer request. There is no feature that sells credits, extra visibility or the right to reply.
  • The default Recommended order is calculated from completed orders, reviews, average rating and how many people saved a gig. A seller cannot write those numbers.
  • Administrators can mark a gig as Featured, which lists it first. There is no way in the product for a seller to pay for that.

Buyer requests are real

Say what you need and sellers send you offers. Limits keep it honest.

  • Each buyer can have 3 open requests at a time. A request stays open for 14 days and then expires.
  • Only sellers with a live gig in a related category can see a request and answer it.
  • Each seller can answer a request once. A request takes at most 20 offers, and one seller can send at most 30 offers in 24 hours, so your inbox is not flooded.
  • Sellers see your username and a budget range, never your real name or an exact budget. Contact details typed into a request are hidden before it is saved.
  • Requests are free to post. An offer becomes an order only if you accept it and pay, and it expires after 7 days if you do not.

How we keep it this way

We keep this page in step with the product: the numbers on it are the ones SkillSellUp enforces, and the refund rules above are the written Refund Policy itself. If something here does not match what you see, tell us.
