SkillSellUp compared with the usual marketplace

This page puts what SkillSellUp does next to what many online marketplaces commonly do. We name no one, and every statement about us is something you can check on the site.

In short

  • SkillSellUp adds no service fee at checkout. Your total is the package price plus any add-ons you choose.
  • Your payment is held by SkillSellUp until you accept the delivery, or until 3 days pass.
  • Refunds follow a written policy and are paid by the company, not left for the seller to agree to.

Side by side

Each row says what we do, then what many marketplaces commonly do. Some do the same as us, and the row says so.

  • The price you see

    On SkillSellUp
Every gig shows its packages with the price, the delivery time and the revisions before you order. The price is fixed when you place the order.
    On many marketplaces
Most marketplaces also show a price up front. On some, the total you pay at checkout is higher than the price on the listing.
  • Fees for the buyer

    On SkillSellUp
SkillSellUp adds no service fee at checkout. The total is the package price plus the add-ons you tick, less a coupon if you have one.
    On many marketplaces
Many marketplaces add a service or processing fee to the buyer's total at checkout, and some change that fee from time to time.
  • When the payment is released

    On SkillSellUp
You pay SkillSellUp. The payment is held until you accept the delivery, or until it is accepted automatically after 3 days, and we remind you once before that happens.
    On many marketplaces
Many marketplaces hold the payment too. When it is released, and after how many days, depends on each marketplace's own rules.
  • Who can sell

    On SkillSellUp
An administrator reads every seller application, checks every public profile and reads every gig before it goes live.
    On many marketplaces
On many marketplaces, anyone can open a seller account and start listing or bidding soon after signing up.
  • How reviews are earned

    On SkillSellUp
Only the buyer of a completed order can review it, once. An invited review from a past client is read by an administrator first, and no seller can edit or delete a review.
    On many marketplaces
Many marketplaces also tie reviews to orders. Rules on invited reviews, editing and removal differ from one to the next.
  • Who you talk to

    On SkillSellUp
You message the seller who does the work, in the site chat, before and during the order. Our support replies within one business day.
    On many marketplaces
Many marketplaces also let you message the seller directly. How quickly support replies differs from one to the next.
  • If it goes wrong

    On SkillSellUp
Refunds are guaranteed under the written Refund Policy and paid by SkillSellUp, not left for the seller to agree to. In a dispute the seller has 3 days to respond, and an administrator who was not involved decides in the 5 days after that.
    On many marketplaces
Many marketplaces have a dispute or resolution process under their own terms. What you get back, and who decides, depends on those terms.

How to read this page

  • We describe what other marketplaces commonly do in general terms only. Their policies change, and some of them do things the same way we do.
  • Every statement about us is something the site does today. If one stops being true, we change this page.
  • Before you pay on any site, ours included, read its terms and its refund policy.

Questions people ask

Why do you not name other marketplaces?

Their rules change, and we cannot check them every day. We describe what is common in general terms and leave the details to their own pages.

Is there really no buyer fee?

Yes. SkillSellUp adds no service fee at checkout. Your total is the package price plus any add-ons you choose, less a coupon code if you have one, and no tax is added today.

Does a verified seller mean the work will be perfect?

No. Verified means an administrator checked the seller, the profile and each gig. It is not a promise about the result. Your protection is the process: the held payment, revisions, disputes and the written Refund Policy.
